Peder Mannerfelt – The Benefits of Living in a Hole
VOAM 013

Back to bang on Blawan & Pariah's Voam, Swedish techno wrangler Peder Mannerfelt injects a much-needed fruity freakiness to well worn tropes on his 10th year in this mode.

Also keenly regarded for his production work on Fever Ray records, it’s in pure club mode that Peder Mannerfelt’s character really comes to the fore. ‘The Benefits of Living in a Hole’ chases up his 2021 session for the same label, ‘And the band Played On’, with a strong showcase of his deft variation within a theme, spanning mad spins on Chicago-via-Brighton blitzed techno to fleet-heeled wallop, spannered filter fuckry and roguish razz peppered with his signature, animated detail and fuelled by propulsive force. On ‘Pumping Plastics’ he channels Lil Louis via Neil Landstrumm on a breakbeat-percolated canter rinsed out with rave signals and fairground vamps, next to a hop-on-the-spot hard techno twiss-up ‘Vankelmotor’, spannered with gargling, shearing synths and distended ghetto bass. ‘Eurotrashed’ keeps to a more even keel of thrumming bog room techno pitched in tumultuous, filtered vocoders for the messiest K’d up ravers and techno vikings, while ‘Liquid Rattan mainframe’ expends his experimental energies in a frictional lather of martial triplets and biting point concrète synth sound design akin to Blawan’s recent zingers.
