Bassbin dweller Om Unit moves dark and shifty in the spaces between electro, dark garage, dubstep and D&B on his latest self-released transmission
The recombinant, ‘nuum-surfing producer draws on decades of experience in UK clubs to scythe his own path between styles and patterns on seven counts, backed with Mr. Ho’s ’91 type of breakbeat-driven new age house rework. On his ones, Om Unit joyrides between turbo arp-fuelled breaks on ‘Snagged’ to post-dubstep swing adjacent Martyn classics in ‘Citrus’, dubbed out dark garage in ‘Moonglade’, and vintage Breakage-esque slants on D&B rolige in ‘Amber (Pt.1)’, plus steps into trilling slow/fast chicanery in ‘Side Quest’, and sparky drumfunk with ‘Hard Skin’.
